We are delighted to have been referenced in the FT Weekend House and Home. Francesa Perry’s article “Stay cool, sustainably” presents a compelling case for passive cooling by using natural building materials and external shading.
Mechanical cooling is on the increase and accounts for 20% of all global electricity consumption. Whilst some argue that “aircon” is more environmentally friendly now with renewable energy, it uses energy nevertheless, which is in short supply.
Critically there is not enough power supply to cool all of our homes, offices and public buildings during hot spells of weather.
We at Enviroblinds know that passive shading can make a huge difference in reducing solar gain. Like Tom Greenhill an engineer and author of the Heatwave Toolkit who is cited in the article, we believe that passive measures should always come first.
