We’re not just talking hot air – joining the GHA is another step in our pledge towards halving our greenhouse gas emissions by 2030
I’m excited to announce that Enviroblinds has been accepted as a member of the Good Homes Alliance (GHA).
As many readers will know, the GHA promotes higher quality sustainable housing and standards via collaborations with industry and government, creating active knowledge exchange networks, sharing best practice, running events, leading campaigns, lobbying for change, partnering on research and commissioning publications.
By joining the ranks of the GHA, we’re aligning ourselves with fellow professionals from the all corners of the building and construction world, including architects, planners, developers, universities, local authorities and urban designers, who share common values. All members subscribe to the GHA’s four main themes, amongst them Alternative Housing Models which aims to address the housing crisis and Quality and Performance which aims to ensure the delivery of high-quality housing. But the priority close to our heart is Net Zero and Future Homes which aims to find ways to achieve carbon neutral housing.
With the wealth of information and reports held in the GHA knowledge bank available to members, we at Enviroblinds are looking forward to discovering new ways in which we can further extend and develop our range of solar shading systems, such as our shutters and external roller blinds, to ensure our products and business halves its carbon footprint by 2030.
We’re not only holding ourselves to account by aligning ourselves with the GHA values, but we also hope to contribute to GHA’s knowledge base ourselves. GHA’s fourth area of focus is Healthy Homes which explores measures to improve health and wellbeing and especially to reduce the risk of overheating – Enviroblinds’ area of expertise.
Nine years ago, Enviroblinds presented to the GHA some research we had undertaken with the University of Brighton (SKTP). Thermodynamic modelling expertise to evaluate external roller blinds investigated the effect of roller blinds on the indoor thermal environment and energy consumption. Since then, we’ve continued to explore new ways to reduce overheating and energy in buildings and develop and improve our range of passive shading solutions. We’re hoping our expertise and recommendations can add value to the GHA’s knowledge bank and benefit our fellow members.
In the meantime, becoming a member of the GHA will be a great resource to us in our own bid to achieve our target of halving our greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. To make sure we stay on track, we’re following the SME Climate Hub Race to Zero Exponential Roadmap which can be found on https://businessclimatehub.org/
